Provence: the Village, the Bee & the Olive
A 26’ documentary directed in 1999 by Clément Fonquernie
Shooting place: France
Confronted with the massive Spanish olive industry, French olive producers have turned back to the old terraced lands in order to meet the challenge with quality not quantity.
Thus in Oraison, a small village in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region, farmers have chosen to use insects rather than pesticides to protect their crops naturally from parasites and disease.
Today the small fly that lives off black fly is produced industrially. In would indeed be a shame if these "soft" methods were undermined by the introduction of genetically modified products into this rural world.
